Anya for Tatler Magazine

TATLER – ‘I am attempting to be a lady,’ announces Anya Taylor-Joy between mouthfuls of a vegan breakfast burrito. It’s brunch time in a bustling farm-to-table restaurant not far from the Hollywood sign in Los Angeles, and – burrito-shovelling aside – the 25-year-old Anglo-Argentinian actress is doing a convincing job. ‘I am attempting to carry a purse,’ she laughs, signalling to the delicate white Dior handbag that perfectly complements her vintage red-and-white-checked sundress, long flowing blonde hair and white Terry de Havilland knee-high boots. ‘I am trying to look grown up. Anya for Los Angeles Times

LA TIMES Anya Taylor-Joy posted a brief Instagram video a few weeks ago during a car ride, her hair damp, her face smeared with dirt and her smile radiant as she laughed and announced, with a hint of astonishment, “Wow … today was a very good day.” There were no words in the post’s caption, just a volcano emoji bracketed by two ice cubes.

Anya Taylor-Joy for People Magazine

PEOPLE– Anya Taylor-Joy’s star has been on the rise since her breakthrough performance in 2015’s The Witch, but last year’s release of (and acclaim for) Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit has made her a household name.

The Emmy-nominated actress, 25, who was born in Miami and then raised in Argentina and the U.K., has already won both a SAG award and Golden Globe for her performance as Gambit’s orphaned chess prodigy, Beth Harmon, and is looking forward to an in-person Emmys experience.

I haven’t done an awards show really ever,” Taylor-Joy, who is nominated for outstanding actress in a limited series or a movie, tells PEOPLE in the latest issue. “I’m looking forward to it, but also semi-terrified because my whole awards run this year [until now] has been in front of a computer. Then I mute myself and run around my bedroom and be a psycho, essentially.
